Consultation workshops for the sustainable management of the Atlantic goliath grouper in French Guyana

From October 22 to November 22, 2021, GEPOG in partnership with Graine Guyane and DialTer, is organizing three consultation workshops in order to define the actions to be implemented for the sustainable management of the Atlantic goliath grouper in French Guyana.

Consultation is a process that allows those involved to dialogue and collectively develop proposals that meet needs.

With what objectives?

  • Discuss the needs in terms of structuring, supervision and promotion of activities on the basis of an existing diagnosis.
  • Define concrete proposals to meet needs while reconciling activities and the preservation of marine resources and more particularly the Atlantic goliath grouper

A program in 4 parts

Workshop n ° 1: Sharing knowledge around the bio-ecology of the Atlantic goliath grouper and the state of populations.

  • Where and when ? : Friday October 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Cayenne – Hôtel Montabo.
  • Objectives: discuss the species and its conservation in the presence of experts from Florida and Brazil and identify gaps and projects to be developed.

Workshop n ° 2: Structuring the sectors

  • Where and when ? : Thursday October 28 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Cayenne – Salle Lapiquionne – DGTM / Vieux Port.
  • Objectives: develop proposals around fishing practices, facilities, equipment, processing and marketing.

Workshop n ° 3: Supervise and promote fishing activities

  • Where and when ? : Monday November 22 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Cayenne – Place to be defined.
  • Objectives: continue discussions on the structuring and supervision of sectors, promote activities and trades and raise awareness about the preservation of marine resources.

Meeting 4: Restitution

  • Where and when ? : Date and Place to be defined.
  • Objectives: To carry out an assessment of the meetings, to report the results of the workshops and to organize the implementation and follow-up of the proposals (creation of working groups).
