Second training “Acacia mangium: Knowledge and control techniques” in Guyana

On October 4, 2021, GEPOG carried out a new training course on the theme “Acacia mangium: Knowledge and Control Techniques”. A day more focused on practice, directly in the field!

After sensitizing the town council of Rémire-Montjoly last September, the association trained some EDF agents for networks and pruning as well as people from the green spaces company BJ TP in Rémire-Montjoly and SAF in Kourou.

In total, this training brought together 11 people in Macouria, in a sector, near medium voltage lines, maintained by EDF and its teams. This training was the opportunity to carry out a first theoretical part by addressing the following themes:

  • general information on acacia and characteristics
  • introduction to Guyana and uses
  • what is an EEE ?

In the second part of the training, different techniques were applied: ringing, felling, manual lifting, mechanical lifting.

This training integrates one of the objectives of LIFE BIODIV’OM which is to carry out 4 training sessions with the technical services of the municipalities, the technicians of natural spaces in order to present the general concepts relating to invasive species as well as the results of actions related to the fight against IAS in favor of Guyanese savannas.
