Actions prior to Life BIODIV’OM

In 2018, around 100 volunteers, ranging in age from 18 to 70, came to support the SEOR teams. Thanks to these participatory projects carried out for 3 years on the Roche-Ecrite forest, the population is estimated at 37 pairs in 2018 and has managed to produce 25 chicks during the 2018-2019 season.

A desire to perpetuate the actions

To ensure the durability of rat extermination actions and to reduce the costs associated with these actions, some volunteers were trained as brigade leaders. As such, eleven volunteers have committed themselves over 5 to 10 years to ensure the preservation of the Tuit-tuit and thus derattoise in dock-autonomy 29% of the area concerned.

The agents of the Société d’Etudes Ornithologiques de La Réunion conducted a field training for the eleven brigade leaders in order to know how to find their way in the forest, use a GPS, supervise a group…

Thanks to Alexis, Caroline Christian, Damien, Fabien, Flora, Floran, Juliette, Nadia, Serge, and Thomas for their commitment.
