The LPO on a coordination mission in the West Indies
From November 29 to December 9, 2022, Life BIODIV’OM coordinator, Delphine MORIN, traveled to Martinique and Saint-Martin. The objective of this mission was to take stock with the teams of the National Nature Reserve of Saint-Martin and those of the Regional Natural Park of Martinique on the actions in favor of groupers in Saint-Martin and on the White-breasted trasher in Martinique.

In Martinique: focus on predator control actions
During the mission, the coordinator of Life BIODIV’OM accompanied the teams of the Regional Natural Park of Martinique, in the middle of a trapping session within the reserve in order to protect the White-breasted thrasher.
After a first campaign carried out between April and July 2022, the PNRM is carrying out a second campaign at the end of the year. In total, during the mission, 58 cages and 58 A24 mechanical traps were set up in the Pointe-Rouge and Château Dubuc area and on plots selected for planting the ecological corridor.
Exchanges also took place between the coordinator and the PNRM on monitoring the numbers and reproduction of the White-breasted Thrasher, on the creation of the ecological corridor as well as on the Faune-Martinique and Faune-Antilles portals.

In Saint-Martin: focus on the deployment of Faune-Saint-Barthélemy-Saint-Martin
Since the beginning of November 2022, the LPO and the National Nature Reserve of Saint-Martin have called on an ornithologist expert to draw up an updated inventory of the avifauna in Saint-Martin, in particular with the aim of identifying important sites for bird conservation. The LIFE BIODIV’OM coordinator therefore took advantage of this mission to take stock with our expert and the AGRNSM on the Fauna portals deployed at the end of 2022.
A field visit was also made to see the awareness panels installed at strategic sites on the island. Finally, exchanges took place between the coordinator of LIFE and the AGRNSM in order to take stock of the progress of the actions deployed within the framework of the project.

National coordination
The Life BIODIV’OM is a European project deploying actions on five overseas territories in which beneficiaries carry out the conservation and protection actions of the project. This is the case of the AGRNSM in Saint-Martin and the PNRM in Martinique. In order to be able to meet the deadlines, the progress of the actions and the budget associated with the project, the national coordination of Life was entrusted to the LPO, with its experience of numerous European projects.

Regular visits
In order to be able to ensure the smooth running of the actions, the project provides for coordination missions in all the territories targeted by the project over the course of 5 years. These missions make it possible to take stock of the technical and financial progress of the project.
